BUSY TIMES!
It’s been two months since the last National Superbike race at Zwartkops. David, however, has been approaching the situation with a “business as usual” mind set and has clocked a fair amount of race miles during the “winter break”.

David’s winter break started with a World Superstock race in Misano, Italy. After Misano he went to Spain to race the Aragon round of the same Championship.  Aragon was a good race for David with him ending up eighth against the World’s best albeit on what he called “truly the hardest track I’ve ridden ever, but one of the best.”

After Aragon David came home and entered a local regional at Killarney using it as part of the team’s domestic testing program. The Raceprep boys did their magic once again giving David a package good enough to seal a double win and a positive test, some of which was wet.  Straight after the Regional it was time to pack again, this time for Brno, the next round of the world Superstock Championship.  Still brimming with confidence from his last race, McFlash was ready for battle. McFlash came away from the Czech Republic with a brilliant result of fifth overall, a huge step forward in the Capetonian’s career. As is the norm, David kept himself busy with the usual strict training regime he calls routine. He spent some time cycling with Jonny Towers and a lot of running, gym work and boxing keeping him in shape and mentally ready to race.

Phakisa

After a near perfect start to his 2012 campaign, the previous round at Zwartkops proved to be the weekend that the team would rather forget. All was not lost with an emphatic win in the second heat over his main rival Gildenhuys on the BMW. Gildenhuys left the round with a ten point lead over McFlash in the Championship standings. The season enters its half way mark and what with the fact that David has been riding new tracks with faster riders bodes well for the latter half. Phakisa should be a grand affair with a duel between the double SBK Champ and the Supersport Champ promising to be the race of the day.

McFadden had this to say,”Coming in to Phakisa I'm really excited. It’s been way too long since I had a National and the most exciting part is we are racing SA’s only Moto Gp track. It’s really awesome to get to race a track with these standards. I just want to get on the bike and get in the groove again. My confidence is high, I’ve learnt a lot in the past two months and the bike is better than ever. Dave Freeman never stops developing the bike and we’ve even applied lessons learnt on the Superstock bike. Phakisa is personally one of my favourite tracks.

I really went well there on the 600, getting the lap record of a 1 min 38.7 so I’m keen to see what I can do on the 1000 in the race. Overall we’ve learnt a lot being overseas with the bike and mostly my riding has improved a lot. See you in Welkom!”
